The ‘Solutions’ program provides information and support to refugee and asylum seeker community members to understand their options for resettlement. Our main focus area is private sponsorship pathways to Canada for refugees and asylum seekers stuck in Indonesia.

Through Solutions we provide information to members of the refugee and asylum seeker community that helps them to understand the resettlement pathways and resources available to them. We assist individuals to navigate complex application processes and facilitate community connections with the goal of finding long term solutions to displacement.

19 refugees living in Indonesia were provided with financial and legal assistance to complete private sponsorship applications.

$168k has been provided for refugee private sponsorship applications to Canada.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF SOLUTIONS?

Providing financial assistance and legal support to refugees applying for private sponsorship in Canada. We also provide connection to networks and information while building a new life in Canada.

Managing a partnership with Northern Lights Canada (a Canadian refugee support group) to connect refugees with Canadian residents who want to be private sponsors.

Creating accessible and multilingual online resources that explain complex resettlement processes in easy terms for refugees and responding to enquiries with information as required.

HOW DOES YOUR DONATION HELP?

A SOLUTION CASE STUDY

Ahmad* is a single male refugee who was referred to RAIC through a partner organisation. After living in an IOM shelter in Makassar for years, Ahmad’s mental health was in a very bad state. His roommate had recently died by suicide and he was left feeling alone and helpless.

There are thousands of young refugee men like Ahmad living alone in Indonesia. These men are usually overlooked by support programs due to a perceived lack of ‘vulnerability’. But without the right to work, study, or build a life in Indonesia, single refugee men like Ahmad are at high risk of psychological distress and suicide. This is why RAIC exists: to provide solutions for those who are falling through the cracks.

After receiving the referral for Ahmad’s case, RAIC acted quickly to provide mental health support and refer him to our Solutions program. We fully funded his private sponsorship application and he has now been accepted for resettlement into Canada.

As he awaits his departure from Indonesia, Ahmad knows he has the full support of the RAIC community around him. He is no longer alone and can finally look forward to the future with hope and dignity.
