Who We Are
Refugee and Asylum Seekers Information Centre (RAIC) Indonesia is a refugee-led organisation aiming to ease the burden for those fleeing persecution.
Since 2017, we’ve worked from within Indonesia’s refugee community to respond to immediate humanitarian needs, provide specialised assistance and opportunities, and collaborate with refugees and asylum seekers to identify and access long-term solutions.
Our Story
When our Founder and Director, Mozhgan, arrived as a refugee in Indonesia in 2013, she found a community struggling with ongoing trauma and the difficulties of living in displacement without basic rights.
No one was seeking long term solutions, no one was sharing information on how to live in Indonesia as a transit country, and no one was asking what was important to us. It quickly became clear that our fellow refugees and asylum seekers were desperate for basic services that were safe, accessible and responsive to their needs.
We saw this as an opportunity to respond to urgent needs in a way that hadn’t been done before in this community: By empowering solutions that were by refugees and for refugees.
This is how the idea for RAIC was born, and it’s this simple but impactful philosophy that has underpinned our work ever since.
While the protracted refugee crisis continues in Indonesia and numbers of refugees and asylum seekers continue to increase around the world, refugee-led organisations like RAIC Indonesia are stepping up to support and uplift community members and each other.
We understand the immediate needs of our communities. We know that through our ongoing efforts and the continued support of others, we can increase the choices available to individuals and families. And we believe in finding long-term solutions that will enable us to look forward to peaceful and safe futures.
OUR TEAM
RAIC Indonesia is a proudly refugee-founded and led organisation. We believe those closest to the experience of displacement are best positioned to identify the solutions that will have the greatest impact.
More than 50% of RAIC’s team bring lived experience of forced displacement to their roles. We are a majority women-led organisation and a global team with staff across Indonesia, Canada, Cambodia, the USA and UK.
Globally, refugee-led organisations remain overwhelmingly under-resourced and excluded from decision-making. That’s why we teamed up with the Resourcing Refugee Leadership Coalition to ensure that, by sharing our resources and working collectively, more refugee voices will be at the centre of international humanitarian systems.

Our work has now expanded beyond the borders of Indonesia through advocacy initiatives that tap into regional and global refugee networks. Using RAIC Indonesia’s programs as a demonstrated model for community impact, these activities are influencing decision-makers to increase the prioritization and resourcing of refugee-led organizations globally to achieve durable solutions.
We are founding members of the Resourcing Refugee Leadership Initiative – a six organization-strong global coalition driven by the importance of transferring ownership and resources to refugee-led organizations (RLOs). Through this coalition, we have established a world first RLO-to-RLO Fund managed by refugees for refugees. This fund distributes grants to RLOs around the world, allowing refugee leaders to access resources and scale their impact.
